2026 PC Software Upgrades

This page describes the software that was installed or upgraded for the 2026 FRC season on the three Lenovo Ideapad 1 laptops.

WPILib

Follow the 2026 WPILib Installation Guideinstructions.

  • Confirm Install
    • Install location: c:/Users/Public/wpilib/2026
    • Shortcuts exist on desktop: 2026 WPILib Tools, 2026 WPILib Docs, 2026 WPILib VS Code
    • VS Code can starts without errors
  • Remove previous WPILib installs if needed. Leave the previous season's WPILib installed (2025 in this case) in case someone wants to run the previous FRC season's robot code.
    • c:/Users/Public/wpilib/<year>
  • Remove previous WPILib shortcuts from desktop. FYI, deleting the desktop shortcuts doesn't remove the installed software. We want to get rid of these shortcuts to reduce confusion.
    • 2025 WPILib Tools, 2025 WPILib Docs, 2025 WPILib VS Code


FRC Game Tools

  • Open NI FRC Game Tools in a browser.
  • Click "Log in to download"
    • Create an account if you don't have one.
  • Click "Download"
  • Open the downloaded exe install file
    • Review the NI components that will be installed and the components that will be upgraded.
    • Select "Next" to continue
  • Once the install completes reboot the PC


REV Hardware Cient

For 2026 REV Robotics introduced REV Hardware Client 2.

  • Open REV Hardware Client 2 Overview and Installation in a browser.
  • Go to the install link and click the giant, weird, green "Install and Launch" button.
    • This button won't launch the installer. It only downloads the installer.
  • Open the rev-hardware-client.exe installer that was downloaded.
    • A REV Downloading progress bar will appear
    • The REV Hardware Client 2 software will open.
    • Close the REV Hardware Client 2

Adding a shortcut for the REV Hardware Client 2 on Windows 11 isn't trivial.

  • Windows button + R
  • Enter the following in the "Open" field: shell:AppsFolder
  • Find the REV Hardware Client 2, right click on the app, and select Create Shortcut

Delete the original REV Hardware Client shortcut from the desktop. Both versions of the REV Hardware Client still exist on the laptop.


Other Tools

Other FRC tools, that have existing shortcuts on the desktop, are upgraded when the NI FRC Game Tools installation is run. This includes:

  • roboRIO Imaging Tool
  • FRC Dashboard
  • FRC Driver Station

FRC Radio Configuration Utility

This utility is only used for older radios. There isn't an FRC radio utility for the VH109 radios. An update for this utility hasn't been available since 2024.
